Director of Programming

Job Identification:

  • Permanent or Contract: Permanent
  • Full-time or Part-Time: Full-time
    • Hours: 9am – 4pm Monday – Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours
    • Location: Wilmington, DE
      • Hybrid: remote and in person hybrid schedule with approximately 60-75% of weekly hours designated to in-person time
      • In-person events include meetings at Strive’s office in Wilmington, DE, local and national programming, and local and national networking events
  • Travel: Occasional long-distance and overnight travel
  • Salary Range: $55,000-$60,000

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Programming is responsible for providing vision and leadership for the program department, overseeing a portfolio of programs and providing oversight, coaching and professional development to both employees and contractors in the Programming Department.  

The Director of Programming is an integral part of the Directors team as Strive’s lead facilitator and is involved in strategic planning, budgeting, development of organizational structure, and going to scale planning and implementation. Alongside the Directors team, the Director of Programming works to promote a strong organizational mission and culture. Additionally, the Director of Programming serves as a key external voice and thought leader for our organization with partners, funders and other stakeholder groups. They lead our efforts to manage and grow our partnerships with schools, colleges and universities, community organizations and other nonprofits. The Director of Programming serves as a highly visible external representative of Strive and must be comfortable building strong relationships with diverse partners.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Organizational Oversight

  • Actively cultivate an inclusive work environment that contributes to the achievement of the organization’s diversity, equity and inclusion goals and cultural competencies
  • Work closely with the Directors Team on program design, strategy, budget development, assessment and continuous improvement for program outcomes and impact
  • Report to and work in close collaboration with the Executive Director to shape the strategy, operations, and metrics for the program team
  • Along with Directors Team ensure organization is maintaining alignment with Strive’s strategic plan
  • Identify, apply and execute on programming grants in partnership with the Directors Team
  • Support in fundraising campaigns
  • Contribute to special initiatives as needed

Oversight of Programming

  • Supervise programming team and contracted facilitators 
  • Responsible for program revenue funded by fee for service programming, grants and other special programs
  • Train facilitators in Strive curricula and teaching practices
  • Create and oversee programming outreach strategy
  • Contribute to curriculum development

Partner Management

  • Oversee all aspects of partner management
  • Oversee partner contact lists
  • Cultivate and strengthen partner relationships through consistent contact and timely follow through
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with collaborative partners to create and facilitate innovative programs that address community needs
  • Cultivate new partner relationships with schools, community organizations, athletic leagues, etc.

Facilitation

  • Facilitate Strive programming including workshops and staff training 
  • Ensure proper preparation and follow up is conducted with partners for each program
  • Strengthen partner relationships through program implementation by bringing an engaging energy and flexible mindset.
  • Lead the application of an equitable lens to our programs
  • Attend and speak at networking events, conferences, etc.

Skills and Qualifications:

The candidate should possess a passion for education, particularly in the areas of social-emotional learning and leadership development 

  • 3+ years experience in teaching, program facilitation and/or coaching
  • Experience in sales, recruitment and outreach
  • Experience in program management
  • Strategic mindset
  • Proven success managing a team and projects and developing others
  • Background in Social-Emotional Learning and/or leadership development
  • Experience creating lesson plans and curriculum a plus
  • Understands the essential roles diversity, equity and inclusion play in social emotional learning and leadership development
  • Demonstrated problem solving, autonomy and organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task and take initiative 
  • Self-motivated team player with the ability to meet deadlines, remain flexible, and adjust to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment 
  • An enthusiastic leader with a zest for learning and a strong commitment to positively impacting others
  • Proficiency in Google Platform (Docs, Sheets, Gmail, etc) 
  • Experience with HubSpot, Salesforce and Adobe creative suite a plus

Expectations:

  • Strive asks that employees utilize their personal laptop for Strive-related work, although it is not a requirement. If you do not have a laptop, please communicate this and we will lend you a laptop for work-related tasks.
  • Strive expects all employees to have a reliable means of transportation to arrive on time to in-person meetings and events.  
  • Strive will run a background check prior to start date.
