Bringing Leadership to the Community: Strive at the YMCA

This year, Strive is focused on spending more time in our community – connecting with parents, students, and leaders who share our mission of spreading the power of character-driven leadership. We’re committed to developing the leaders of tomorrow by focusing on youth development, and we recently had an amazing opportunity to do just that at the YMCA!

The local Delaware YMCA branches have been pivotal in supporting youth development in Wilmington and across the state. So when we got the chance to host a workshop with their after school teen program participants and connect with parents, we jumped at it!

Games, Grit, and Growth

Coach Emily led the workshop, which focused on building relationships and teamwork. What makes Emily such a fantastic facilitator is her ability to read the room and adjust on the fly. She quickly noticed that this group thrived on interactive activities – so she leaned into the fun! Through a series of games centered on relationship-building, grit, and teamwork, the teens were moving, laughing, and fully engaged with the content. Even the YMCA staff jumped in to participate, which was awesome to see!

Meanwhile, Coach Caroline set up in the main atrium, mingling with the incredible check-in staff and chatting with parents about our programs. We loved when younger kids stopped by our table, intrigued by our flyers (and, let’s be honest, the candy we had out). We learned a lot about what parents are looking for in leadership development opportunities for their kids. It was wonderful to connect with so many families, and we can’t wait to see them at future community events and Strive programs!

A Purposeful Day at the YMCA

Coach Caroline and Coach Emily left the Walnut Street YMCA feeling inspired. At Strive, we are developing the leaders of tomorrow, and every interaction – whether with kids, parents, or community partners – reinforces the importance of our work. This event was a reminder that leadership starts with connection, and we’re grateful for every opportunity to help shape the future of local leaders.
