Job Identification:

  • Location: Hybrid; Wilmington, DE

Schedule: 2/17/24 – 2/19/24

  • Staff Training
    • Virtual: Complete Strive eLearning Course independently before 2/17/24
    • Virtual: Saturday 2/17/24, 10am-2pm
    • In-person: Sunday 2/18/24, 2pm-6pm at The Teen Warehouse in Wilmington, DE
  • Mini-Clinic Program
    • In-person: Monday 2/19/24, 7:30am-5:30pm at Wilmington Friends School in Wilmington, DE

Role:

Strive’s Coaches in Training Program is a special opportunity for high school student-athletes (who play basketball, lacrosse or soccer) to attend Strive Coaches Trainings alongside Strive Coaches and gain experience coaching younger student-athletes under the supervision of Strive Coaches at Strive’s Mini-Clinic. Coaches in Training will receive invaluable feedback in real time on their coaching and mentorship skills. 

 

Special consideration will be given to Sports Challenge 2023 Alumni and athletes who register for and attend Strive’s Monthly Meets.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in all coach development sessions and preparation time. 
    • Actively participate in coach development sessions to ensure maximum impact for coaching and classroom teaching. 
    • Perform necessary prep work for coaching and class sessions. 
  • Assist as a coach.
  • Assist as a teacher for a leadership class. 
  • Serve as a mentor to student-athletes.
  • Participate in and support all program-wide activities, such as:
    • Sports Challenge Games.
    • Vitamins morning workout.
    • Leadership Forum.
  • Support with administrative tasks.
    • Assist in setting up and cleaning up the facilities.
    • Support with drop-off, check-in and pick-up.
    • Assist with student-athlete evaluation surveys.
    • Complete post-program evaluation survey. 
    • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Current high school student-athlete

  • Currently or recently play(ed) on a team (basketball, soccer or lacrosse)

  • Are passionate about leadership and athletics

  • Believe in working hard and working as a team

  • Believe that leadership skills can be taught

  • View sports as an extraordinary medium for teaching leadership skills as well as other life-lessons

  • Believe in self-improvement and continued learning

  • Take their responsibilities seriously without taking themselves too seriously

Expectations:

Strive expects all employees to have a reliable means of transportation to arrive on time to in-person events.
